Holding Fast to What is Good – The Miracle of Multiplication – Matthew 14:13-19 (NIV)
"When Jesus heard what had happened, he withdrew by boat privately to a solitary place. Hearing of this, the crowds followed him on foot from the towns. When Jesus landed and saw a large crowd, he had compassion on them and healed their sick. As evening approached, the disciples came to him and said, 'This is a remote place, and it’s already getting late. Send the crowds away, so they can go to the villages and buy themselves some food.' 'They do not need to go away. You give them something to eat.'
'We have here only five loaves of bread and two fish,' they answered.
'Bring them here to me,' he said. And he directed the people to sit down on the grass. Taking the five loaves and the two fish and looking up to heaven, he gave thanks and broke the loaves. Then he gave them to the disciples, and the disciples gave them to the people."
Introduction:
We serve a God of multiplication, a God who takes the smallest offerings and turns them into more than enough. Just as He took five loaves and two fish and fed thousands, He can take the small acts of faith we offer and multiply them into blessings beyond what we can imagine.
Point 1: God Uses the Small and Ordinary
Even the smallest offering can become a miracle in the hands of the Divine.
'Hold fast to what is good, for in God’s hands, little becomes much.'
Our part is to bring what we have, no matter how small, and trust God to multiply it.
Point 2: The Power of Gratitude and Faith
When we give thanks for what we have, God moves in powerful ways.
'Trust that in the breaking, there is always a blessing.'
Gratitude unlocks abundance, and faith releases the miraculous.
Point 3: The Overflowing Blessing of Generosity
'When we give what we have, God makes it more than enough.'
This is the principle of multiplication – what we place in God’s hands can feed multitudes.
Just as the disciples distributed the bread and fish, we are called to share what we have received.
Reminder:
Let us hold fast to what is good, remembering that even in our smallest offerings, God can create miracles. May we be people of faith, ready to give, ready to trust, and ready to witness the abundance that flows from a generous heart.
Amen.
